Dramatic scenery but sadly over grazed by sheep. I don't think it can be called a nature reserve while being grazed by sheep. Grazing has stopped the recovery of native plants and trees, and there fo…Full review by Chris M

You can park in the car park (£4) and view the waterfall from the bottom or climb up to Loch Skeen at the top. This is a pretty tough walk - steep and a little scary at times as it would be easy to s…Full review by Bluebell_Wood

Hi there, I was wondering would it be possible be access this location by some form public transport (e.g. by bus or taxi or hire a driver) from the town of Moffat? We would be passing by Moffat during out travels (by bus); Would love to visit the Grey Mare's Tail during the day but will probably not have access to a car. Alternatively, would it be possible to rent a bike and cycle to the location entrance and have a place to store the bicycles while we climb? Would appreciate any advice and thank you!

Hi, there isn't a bus service down the Yarrow Valley so I would suggest a taxi from Moffat. I don't think it would be too expensive. The only alternative I can think of would be to hire bikes but I don't know of any hire shops in Moffat. Moffat is only a small town with very little in the way of "activity shops". The best way would be to take a taxi and ask the driver to come back at a specific time, thus reducing the cost. The walk up the waterfall and on to Megget Reservoir would take about 2/3 hours, it is quite steep and rough under foot so be careful. If you can hire bikes it would be safe enough to leave them padlocked to a fence post. If the weather is bad DON'T even attempt it!!! Good luck, it is a beautiful spot on a good day.
