The Island of Murano is a nice shot boat ride from Venice, and well worth the time. You can visit several different glass companies to select your custom glass. Note: Don't get stuck into a free ride to Murano, because you will only see one glass company. I would recommend taking a water taxie to the Islands of Murano and Burano. Burano offers beautiful bright multi colored buildings, and you can buy custom hand made fabrics. I hope this helps you.
We only saw the one glass blowing demonstration that was part of the Get Your Guide tour. It was very interesting. Could have easily spent the entire day on the island
