The latest attempt to jumpstart the iconic Smurfs franchise back to boxoffice life, Smurfs, will be perfectly acceptable fodder to keep the kiddies amused, and because of its original 80’s Saturday Morning cartoon series just might provide enough nostalgia to make it bearable for their parents.

ScreenRant interviews Smurfs director Chris Miller about Rihanna’s involvement in the sequel as a producer and star of the rebooted franchise.

The very pregnant 37-year-old icon walked the blue carpet at the Paramount Theater with her two sons, RZA, 2, and Riot, 1. The film, which hears Rihanna voice the character Smurfette, was celebrated with the cast and a few life-size Smurfs making an appearance.

On May 16, Rihanna released the song "Friend of Mine" as part of the upcoming Smurfs movie soundtrack. The synth-heavy song features lyrics about friendship and a music video filled with psychedelic graphics, bright colors and dancing Smurfs, including Rihanna as Smurfette.

Not even Rihanna as Smurfette saves things.
