Forecasters warned more rain and flash flood risk is expected on July 15 after storms flooded out roads the day before.

Authorities say two people in New Jersey were killed after their vehicle was swept up in flood waters during a storm that moved across the U.S. Northeast overnight.

Torrential downpours battered the New York metropolitan area on Monday night, unleashing widespread flash flooding that brought transit systems to a standstill, submerged roads and highways, and disrupted air travel across several major airports.

Transit agencies in the New York City area were promising a fairly smooth commute with some lingering delays on Tuesday, the morning after heavy rain pummeled the region, flooding parts of the subway system, inundating major roads and causing long flight delays.

Footage shows wooden slats from the home on the ground with other debris. The blast took place around the same time heavy rainfall hit the northeast.

Parts of New York City and Northern New Jersey were inundated on Monday night as widespread thunderstorms moved through.

The heavy downpours wreaked havoc across the city with footage showing commuters overwhelmed by floodwaters in various subway stations.

According to the National Weather Service, flooding in the Binghamton area is possible on July 14 due to thunderstorms causing excess rainfall.
