Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed what she describes as the largest expansion of the child tax credit in New York State’s history.Eligible families could receive a yearly tax credit of up to $1,000 for each child under the age of four.

Governor Hochul also proposes adding a substitute pool to help keep classrooms running. She said she wants to create a childcare coalition.

Hochul said she wants to provide families with an annual tax credit of up to $1,000 per child under age 4, and up to $500 per child from ages 4 through 16.

The proposal would raise the credit to a maximum of $1,000 per child — the largest expansion in state history.
