This weekend, Sony’s PlayStation Network was down for more than 24 hours, one of the longest unscheduled outages for a major gaming network in recent history. Many of PlayStation’s online services were down Friday and Saturday, interrupting many weekends and stoking some sensible fear about the future of digital game ownership.

"All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service," reads a post on X from the official PlayStation support account @AskPlayStation. Five free days of service isn't a bad trade for an issue that lasted around half a day.

PlayStation Network was hit with an outage and remained offline for many users through most of Saturday leaving them frustrated.

Sony’s PlayStation Network is up and running Sunday after a massive outage left many frustrated users unable to play online games or access its online store.

Users on social media had complained that they could not access their games after the unexplained outage began on Friday night.

In a post on X just before 9 p.m. Friday, Ask PlayStation posted: “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.”

Sony blamed an operational issue for the 20-hour service outage, which affected console gamers on the PlayStation Network over the weekend.
