Subaru was experimental in the 1990s, and for the Legacy, it made one of the weirdest engines we've ever seen.

The 2JZ-GTE's already proven itself worthy of belting out more than 2,000hp. You'll need more than a 64mm turbo to get anywhere close, though, but it's less complicated than you think.

It shared the same cast iron block as the 2JZ-GTE twin-turbocharged engine that can push upwards of 800 wheel horsepower on stock internals, and it can be made quite reliable with some mods.

Crucially, it was also available with the 2JZ engine. Unlike the Altezza/IS300, a Japanese market version of the Aristo was available with the twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE variant of the engine.

The 2JZ-GTE twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine is in 800 hp specification which should give Saito plenty of momentum to sustain some long drifts.

But since we’re talking about a twin-turbo setup here, we could be dealing with the 2JZ-GTE. This twin-turbo version of the mill can offer up to 325 hp in factory stock form.

The spiciest variation of the engine was the twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE, found nestled in the Supra Turbo (Via Motortrend). In its bone stock configuration, the 2JZ-GTE made 320 horsepower.
