The neighboring church of St-Étienne-du-Mont, another vestige of the vanished Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève that once crowned the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, draws comparatively small attention.
St. Aubert undertook the building of a first church, with the capacity of about 100 people; it was consecrated in October 709 and given the name Mont-Saint-Michel-au-péril-de-la-Mer.
The Oscar-winning film "The Brutalist" was inspired in part by St. John's Abbey Church, thanks to a book written by a monk who worked with architect Marcel Breuer.
