The biennial Michigan Big Tree Hunt is back and inviting outdoor adventurers to join in on a statewide search for Michigan’s biggest trees.

Releaf Michigan started the Big Tree Hunt in 1993. The nonprofit was founded in 1988 by a group of arborists who wanted to address the depleting tree canopy in Michigan.

Participants can win $500 for the largest tree, with additional prizes of $400, $300, $200 and $100 for the second through fifth largest trees, respectively. The contest is open to both Maryland ...
