Callistemon viminalis, sub species the river bottlebrush, grows along rivers and creeks throughout Queensland, including the Barron, Mulgrave, Johnstone and Tully rivers.
The dominant species on our part of the coast is C. citrinus, named for the citrus-like scent of the little spear-shaped leaves that march up the stems.
There are several species commonly planted in the Florida landscape. The scientific name used to be Callistemon but has recently been changed to Melaleuca.
