The Jerod Mayo era is already over in New England. He was fired as the team’s head coach on Sunday after just one season in charge, the team announced. The Patriots earlier in the day beat the Bills, 23-16, to move out of the No. 1 pick in the draft, down to No. 4.

The Patriots have to avoid becoming a revolving door of head coaching hires because of the devastating impact that could have on the team as a whole. It could hurt quarterback Drake Maye’s development, while also making the team a far less attractive destination for prospective coaches and players.

After enjoying one of the lengthiest periods of coaching stability under Bill Belichick, the Patriots are going the one-and-done rout with Jerod Mayo.
