Google Maps now labels the Gulf of America for U.S. users, and the Gulf of Mexico for those in Mexico. This isn't the first body of water to have different names according to different countries.

As of Thursday, how the Gulf appeared on Google Maps was dependent on the user's location and other data. If the user is in the United States, the body of water appeared as Gulf of America.

The federal government, including the military, is changing the name on maps to "Gulf of America." Even Google suggested it would make the change.
