Harbor Freight is recalling 454,000 jack stands because they pose a safety risk and is advising consumers to stop using them immediately.

So Harbor Freight has added another set of jack stands to the first recall. The May recall covered three- and six-ton stands with item numbers 56371, 61196, and 61197.

Months after Harbor Freight recalled 454,000 jack stands because they posed a safety risk, the retailer announced it is now recalling the replacement stands.

This is like the Takata airbag recall of the DIY world—it’s a certainty that at least some of you reading this own these potentially dangerous stands.

Harbor Freight has issued a recall and “do not use” alert on hundreds of thousands of jack stands due to a manufacturing issue that may lead to their collapse.

Harbor Freight is recalling a portion of the three-ton jack stands which were used as replacements for a group of defective jack stands it recalled in May 2020.

The note goes on, saying Harbor freight did not discover the defect on other Pittsburgh-brand three-ton steel jack stands, or on six-ton or 12-ton stands.

The affected Pittsburgh-brand three- and six-ton jack stands were in production for six years, and span three separate model numbers.
