MADISON COUNTY, Ill. — Multiple communities in Madison County, Illinois, were put under a flash flood warning Tuesday evening as heavy rains drenched the region. The warning was issued until 7 p.m. Tuesday night, the 5 On Your Side Weather Impact Team said. Affected communities include Edwardsville, Granite City, and Alton, among others.
The data also highlights critical risks in other areas along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, and nationwide as many Americans have a flood risk they are not aware of.
More than a month's worth of rain fell on Chicago in 90 minutes on Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). "There were numerous reports of flooded viaducts, several reports of water rescues, and a few reports of flooded basements," the NWS said.
