It is a measure of Dame Marie Bashir's successful governorship that although no group owned her, lots of groups, and people, felt she belonged to them.

The Governor of New South Wales, Marie Bashir, has been appointed a Dame of the Order of Australia as part of the Queen's Birthday honours.

On the grounds of Government House is a pine tree Marie Bashir planted from a seed, now grown many metres tall.
