The Marie Bashir Public School, named in honour of the NSW Governor, is one of three new public schools opening this year, with Oran Park Public School and the George Bass Special Needs School.

Professor Bashir went from Narrandera Public School to Sydney Girls High School and then the University of Sydney, where she completed her medical degree in 1956.
