Ancestry.com, the world’s largest online family resource website, recently published a list of three most common last names in all 50 states.

In the study, Ancestry.com reviewed phone book listings from across the country to determine the three most popular last names in each state. The company found Smith is far and away the most common.

The most common name among pets registered with Spot Pet Insurance was Luna with 3,449 animals reported. Bella came next with 2,245 owners registering the name, followed by 1,762 for Milo.

Last names vary as much as the people who have them. It turns out, however, there are certain trends when it comes to surnames.
