Lawrence Levine, 36, of Morgan City was booked into the Vermilion Parish jail March 14 on one count of negligent arson.

Some of the cats were dead and decomposing. Officers seized 52 cats and a dog from a Motel 6 room. The owners were arrested at the scene. Authorities say their investigation started in January.
