Papaya plants are heavy feeders. Give them a nitrogen-rich fertilizer such as composted chicken manure, and mulch heavily. They will grow fast and yield fruit in as little as a year.

One large papaya is packed with 235 milligrams of vitamin C-- that's two to three times more than your recommended daily allowance -- and is an excellent source of vitamin A, potassium, and calcium.
