A new city ordinance meant to lower speed limits near schools across Oahu has hit the brakes, at least for now.
The new variable speed limit will go live Wednesday, Oct. 16. According to TxDOT, these variable speed limit signs are made possible thanks to House Bill 1885, passed in September 2023.
The signs are located between Mile Point 169 and 173, Eagle-Vail and West Vail, in Dowd Canyon and will display different speed limits as dependent on the current highway conditions, the agency said.
