Daimler has strengthened ties with Ford Motor Co. after consulting with the U.S. automaker during the development of a three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine.

Current engine families are the last new ones, Daimler says. It sees half the cars sold in 2030 being electrified: EV, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid. By 2050, half the combustion cars would be gone.
