Emil Lilleberg pulled the Crunch back within one 2:38 into the third period. Max Groshev threw a cross-zone feed for Lilleberg to chip in the backdoor as he cut down the left wing.

TAMPA — Lightning defenseman Emil Lilleberg was suspended for two games for his hit on J.T. Compher during Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the Red Wings in Detroit.

Lilleberg has 11 assists and 80 hits over 45 contests this season. The Lightning loaned Declan Carlile to AHL Syracuse in a corresponding move Friday.

Lilleberg was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Tuesday. Lilleberg will join up with the Crunch, who are tied 1-1 in a best-of-five series against AHL Rochester.

Emil Lilleberg and Max Crozier developed instant chemistry last year as rookies and now look to take the next step.

Before his NHL call-up, Lilleberg notched two goals and 13 points in 33 games for the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League. He is a heavy, old-school-style defender.

Lilleberg received a minor penalty for the incident, which occurred in the second period of the Red Wings’ 2-0 victory.
