Lily-Rose Depp, who plays Orlok's object of obsession, Ellen Hutter, calls Skarsgård "the only man for the job." This follows years of secrecy, with the studio working tirelessly since development initially began in 2015 to make sure the first time you see the horrifying vampire is in the cinemas.

The first person to play Orlok on screen was Max Schreck in F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film Nosferatu: eine Symphonie des Grauens, which follows a similar narrative to Eggers' reimagining.
