As Tampa Bay was winning a pair of Stanley Cups, it was the 5-foot-9 Yanni Gourde who often energized the Amalie Arena crowd.

Gourde, who returned to Seattle’s lineup against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday after a two-month absence (sports hernia surgery), had an assist and won 8-of-9 faceoffs. Only Jared McCann scored more shorthanded goals (six) than Gourde (four) during his time with the Kraken since 2021-22.

“We were definitely sloppy with the puck on our stick,” defenseman Ryan McDonagh said. “Turnovers were an all-time high for us in the season, but in the end, we got outworked, if we’ve really looking at the big picture here, and there’s a team that simply came in and worked harder than us, and that’s the disappointing thing for sure.”
