Connecting to the fire department connection (FDC) is a routine task that’s assigned at fires involving buildings that are equipped with standpipes and/or sprinkler systems.

The committee (NFPA 13-E) concluded that fire departments should have an alternate means for providing a water supply when the FDC has been damaged by arsonists or removed by scrap metal thieves.
