It’s hard to believe that a store I used to know as the-place-that-serves-free-cheese-samples, also serves pizza, hot dogs and 11 different varieties of pita sandwiches – without the toothpick.
The first store was opened in Maumee, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo, in 1959. The next year, Hickory Farms opened in Chicago, and by 1969, 135 stores dotted the nation, including one in Hawaii.
Hickory Farms, the seller of gift packages featuring summer sausage and cheese, is moving its headquarters to Chicago from Ohio as the 65-year-old company looks to add products and hire new employees.
