The Marlins announced Tuesday that they signed reliever Jon Rauch to a one-year deal. The organization had apparently placed emphasis on adding a reliever with closing experience to the bullpen mix.

John Rauch, the former Georgia quarterback who coached the Oakland Raiders to a berth in the second Super Bowl, died Tuesday at his home in Oldsmar, Fla. He was 80.
