Texas has a new law that bans the sale of “cell-cultured protein” for human consumption for two years starting September 1.

The law makes Texas the seventh state to ban the sale of lab-grown or cultured meat. Indiana passed a similar law in May.

This means no meat alternatives made by cell-culturing technology will be legally sold in Texas stores or restaurants.

Lab-grown meat is part of a larger trend in the meat industry toward sustainable meat products that don’t contribute to climate change.
