At the heart of Google's Project Tango, an experimental 3D-mapping smartphone, is a 3D sensor made by PrimeSense, a company acquired by Apple late last year.

If you want a hint of what might be on the horizon at Apple, look to Google – or at least look to its Project Tango experimental 3D depth-sensing smartphone.
