New York Mets legend-turned-announcer Keith Hernandez was oblivious to a foul ball that was headed right toward his cranium on Thursday.

It turns out baseball announcing can be a dangerous profession. During the Mets’ second game of Thursday’s double-header against the Orioles at Camden Yards, broadcaster Keith Hernandez was nearly drilled by a foul ball off the bat of Baltimore outfielder Cedric Mullins.

Trying to survive Thursday afternoon on one run was never a good idea for the Mets, only underscored by the hanging slider Ryne Stanek threw to Gunnar Henderson in the eighth inning.

The New York Mets could be on the hunt for relief pitching this season, which might turn them to the Baltimore Orioles to poach a flamethrower.

The Mets aren’t alone in trying to ensure their pitchers get the right amount of work before the four-day break, but a Thursday doubleheader will make that more complicated.
