Heavily armed gangs in Haiti have attacked a neighborhood that’s home to most of the country’s elite and had been largely untouched by criminals

As hundreds of armed gang members, entrenched in the hills above Haiti’s capital, await orders to attack the last enclaves not currently under their control, the multinational fight to end their terror is being impeded by the Trump administration’s freeze on foreign aid.

The armed attack on the Kenscoff neighborhood began last month, with the death toll expected to rise as gangs wreak havoc on the area.

Kenscoff has been under attack for over a week now. The mayor said the area is surrounded and called for reinforcements

Haiti’s gangs caused thousands of deaths and the displacement of over a million people in the past year, according to the UN, highlighting the extreme humanitarian consequences of their increasing control over the country.
