General Motors is recalling nearly 62,500 Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks because their brake pressure sensor assembly could potentially leak and pose a fire risk.
The third-generation Chevy Traverse, powered by the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 engine, has been identified with a low oil pressure issue at idle.
"The brake pressure sensor assembly may leak brake fluid into the brake pressure switch and cause a short circuit," the memo said.
Certain units from the Chevy Silverado MD lineup comprising 18 models across four model years have been recalled for a brake pressure switch short.
If oil pressure drops below a safe level, the oil pressure sender will open the ground to the relay to stop the pump and protect the engine from mechanical damage.
An abnormally long crank time or a no-start could indicate a faulty oil-pressure switch (Image C). Note: GM had a run of bad oil-pressure switches controlling the fuel pump.
The oil-pressure sending unit on 305- and 350-inch Chevy engines is at 1 o'clock in relation to the distributor. This a common area for oil leaks to occur, so we made sure the fittings were tightened.
General Motors said Chevy dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harnesses on customers’ trucks free of charge.
