Two teenage boys and a teenage girl have been charged with attempted murder after a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in a country park.

Plans to expand and improve parking facilities at a popular country park have been given the green light by city councillors.

Herrington Country Park, along with 15 other parks, cemeteries and gardens in Sunderland, has remained unlocked since 2016 due to budget cuts.

Picture: Google Maps Sunderland City Council’s Planning and Highways Committee, at a meeting this week, approved a council application to extend car parking areas at Herrington Country Park.

The plans will see Herrington Country Park's main cafe car park more than double in size, from 62 spaces to 129. The park's smaller skate area car park will be expanded from nine to 33 spaces.
