Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), celebrated the keel laying of the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), the second ship of the Gerald R. Ford class.

The 680-metric ton lower bow unit has been joined to the other keel sections that comprise the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). It is one of the heaviest superlifts to be placed on the ship.
