The old design had a drawing compass in front of a blueprint with the Android logo poking its head over top, while the new version ditches the blueprint and has the compass look more like an “A.” ...

While the app icons have followed the flat design trend, the Android robot has been transformed into a 3D representation. This logo redesign appears to indicate more than just a grammatical shift.
