The San Diego City Council Tuesday passed an ordinance requiring operators of live events to ensure workers at city-owned facilities and parks have completed standardized safety training.

The city of San Diego passed a law earlier this week aimed at preventing accidents, injuries and fatalities in the live entertainment industry.

According to the San Diego Event Coalition, the live events industry makes up over 12 million workers nationwide and contributes over $1.2 trillion to the gross economy.

Some San Diego workers’ rights organizations say local workers deserve better treatment and essentials to live in their communities.
