The South Coast bioregion contains the eastwest-running Transverse Range and the northsouth-oriented Peninsular Range. Except for the alpine zone, both ranges have a full complement of montane zones.

Chaparral is the shrubland that blankets our hillsides and valleys, from desert to coast. We don't always recognize its beauty and its value, but that makes it ripe for exploration.
