Georgia rolled out a security lock feature for SNAP cards in December in an effort to curb benefit theft. But six months later, only 6% of households are using it.
The announcement comes amid nationwide instances of SNAP theft, especially reports of card skimming, where benefits are stolen off EBT cards at a point-of-sale machine.
The new card lock feature is one way individuals can protect their EBT cards while they are not in use. DHS continues to refer suspected cases of SNAP theft to OSIG to further investigate.
