Particularly Dangerous Situation: What is it and when are they issued by the National Weather Service

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Millions of Southern Californians were on edge as a final round of dangerous fire weather was forecast for the region on Wednesday, along with a rare warning of a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” for an area near where two massive blazes have killed at least 25 and destroyed thousands of homes.

As fires in the region remain uncontained, L.A. officials say they’re “ready” for an incoming new round of strong winds.

The “particularly dangerous situation” was in effect for an area that includes parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The strongest gusts are expected Tuesday morning and early afternoon, which will then be followed by a break in the evening.

A rare alert called a "Particularly Dangerous Situation" is in effect Wednesday for parts of fire-ravaged southern California. The National Weather Service initially issued the warning for Tuesday but extended it after Tuesday’s conditions were less hazardous than expected.
