The star wars timeline is thousands of years long. They can tell star wars stories in ANY era they want, and create whole new eras. Heck if they wanted they could fast forward 300 years to when the events of the sequel's are a distant memory, and focus on the story of Mandolorian Grogu.

Daisy Ridley deserved a better written character, and audiences who grew up with Star Wars deserved a better sequel trilogy.
