Handguns, alongside the SMGs, are the only weapons in WWII that can use suppressors, while handguns exclusively accept the tactical knife accessory. In singleplayer, suppressed pistols are given at specific points in the campaign.

When I think of fictional guns that take inspiration from real firearms, I think of the blasters in star wars. I believe they were based on real guns used in ww2 and I wouldn’t describe them as over-the-top scifi designs.

For those who don't know: The Starwars imperial blaster is a Sten gun, a WW2 British smg that was later replaced by the Steyr, that had extra stuff glued on it and painted.
