Ilham Heydar Oghlu Aliyev (Azerbaijani: İlham Heydər oğlu Əliyev [ilˈhɑm hejˈdæɾ oɣˈlu æˈlijev]; born 24 December 1961) is an Azerbaijani politician who has been the fourth and current president of Azerbaijan since 2003.

Ilham Aliyev is the longtime president of Azerbaijan (2003– ) who has leveraged the country’s oil wealth to enrich his autocratic rule and build up a military capacity that in the 2020s allowed Azerbaijan to take control of Nagorno-Karabakh.
