The first of our trout cod at Snobs Creek hatchery have spawned and things are looking good. Dean and Chris retrieved this nesting box on Monday and were stoked to see such a good yield from just one box. So far this season, the team has collected around 38,000 trout cod eggs from 3 boxes at Snobs. Those eggs are now safe and sound inside our native fish building waiting to hatch. Our Arcadia native fish hatchery is into Murray cod production season! The crew have been keeping an eye on 50 of these nesting boxes, set out across the site’s 10 broodfish ponds. They’re where our female broodfish cod lay their eggs before the males come along to fertilise and guard them. Once the eggs are ready they’re moved inside to our incubators to hatch under controlled conditions, before being moved back outside to plankton ponds to grow to fingerling size.
